THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Time magazine’s Person of the Year has just been announced, and it’s ME.
And you. And Anna Hazare, “Long-Hair” Leung Kwok-hung and anyone else who regularly takes to the streets to make anti-greed protests.
The venerable magazine has declared “The Protestor” in general as the human being who had the most significant effect on global society this year.
Yah boo sucks to people who sneered when this writer and many readers joined our nearest branches of the Occupy Wall Street protests.
Time’s Rick Stengel said: “Leadership has come from the bottom of the pyramid, not the top. For capturing and highlighting a global sense of restless promise, for upending governments and conventional wisdom, for combining the oldest of techniques with the newest of technologies to shine a light on human dignity and, finally, for steering the planet on a more democratic though sometimes more dangerous path for the 21st century, the Protester is TIME's 2011 Person of the Year.”
So where’s our award? Or cash prize? Or party? Let’s get some banners and stand outside the Time magazine offices chanting until they give us something. Muah ha ha ha ha.

THE US Library of Congress, where historic speeches are stored, announced that it will partner with Twitter to store every tweet ever made. Wow. Just think. Future historians will have to work out which documents are most significant. “All Men Are Created Equal”? Or “thinking about squeezing my zits”? Hmm, tough call.

A HACKER got into Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg’s private photo album to reveal pix showing how the young tycoon spends his days. Interesting. He spends them not doing Facebook.

THOUGHT-PROVOKING note from reader Barbara Dyer:
“A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends. Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before. I took a bus home. I arrived home safely, without incident. This was a real surprise as I have never driven a bus before and am not sure where the %$& I got it from.”

THIS IS from the Times of India last week: “Six hundred drug addicts in Surat will be offered supplements of cocaine and heroin free… to keep the addicts on a high and prevent them from exposing themselves to sustained high risk of contracting HIV virus through use of unsafe needles and syringes.”
For years, I have been addicted to lobster thermidor at high risk of damage to my bank account. Could the relevant authorities kindly take action?

WHEN POPE Benedict agreed to light a Christmas tree in Italy last week, his hosts handed him a tablet computer to do it with. Moses’ tablet had Ten Commandments. The Pope’s has 100,000 apps. Technically, this is progress; in reality, no.

BEST TOPICAL quote comes from Conan O’Brien: “India has suspended its plans to let a Wal-Mart open in its country. The prime minister's exact words were ‘India will make your crappy clothes, but we won't buy them.’”

The more trouble the better?
Time magazine's announcement of "Long Hair" Leung Kwok-hung dubbed as "roughie" as the person of the year among other troublemakers reminds me of the Red Guard activities initiated by the ex-Chinese leader Mao Zedong who honored all such people under the slogan of "the more trouble the better"!
